There was something different about this night right from the outset. Although I’ve been to my fair share of Verboten parties, this was my first time catching one at Highline Ballroom. I hadn’t been to this venue in quite a while, and can’t even remember who was the last act I saw there. While I know by now to always expect a quality event from Verboten, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect in terms of the atmosphere on this particular night in NYC.
Having chosen to drive into the city for this one, I cruised up and down the nearby streets looking for parking. As I pulled up past the venue, what do you know? Parking spot right out front! Naturally, it seemed too good to be true. Had to be a trap, right? Despite the absence of any “No Parking” signs, I half expected to wind up being towed. But I ignored such worries…I was ready for some music! After a painless entry through security, I got my stamp and headed in toward the dance floor. It was already past 1 AM at this point, yet when I walked in the place was damn near empty! I’m not kidding…maybe 25 people including me and my friends, and that’s being generous. This night DOES feel strange!
