If there was a night for you not to miss at Webster Hall, it was the night Crookers came to town. As usual Girls & Boys events held it down with booking one of the most influential dj/producers that changed the dance music game with his Kid Cudi remix of Day N’ Nite bringing the italian producers on the international dance music scene map. With the recent breaking up of Crookers, Phra of Crookers decided to keep the name of Crookers going with the production and DJing for shows, and everyone couldn’t have been more glad. Crookers music has their own style, their own way of producing and not trying to stick to any specific genre. Although most of their songs might be house or techno, they blend all sorts of samples and rhythms from cumbia, to big-room and even a little bit of trap now. Letting no limits hold him back, Phra was ready to tear up the Webster Hall stage and show New York City that the Crookers name lives on.
The night started off with New York’s favorite DJ Dali opening up the night with a full on house set. As door’s opened and the crowd filled up, Dali had the crowd amplified and rocking like it was no problem. Hitting the crowd with heavy house bangers like Martin Garrix – Animals, the crowd continued to jump through his set ready to experience a night filled with fun at one of America’s most renowned venues. As Dali spun Dog Bloog – Middle Finger as his outro track, Fake Blood took over the decks. Fake Blood kept the house vibe going by spinning a set filled with house, deep house, and funky tech-house. With a tracklist that was almost impossible for me to ID, Fake Blood did end up dropping classics like his remix of Forgetfulness by The Black Ghosts which is a sideproject of Fake Blood’s which he has is one half of. With the fans screaming and getting down non-stop to Fake Blood, time finally came for the headliner of the night to take the stage, the man everyone had been waiting for, Phra of Crookers.
The fans roared with hands raised and everyone screaming, Phra entered the stage with his sunglasses on and a large smile, ready to kick off the night. Phra’s set was an all around set containing all sorts of tracks from house, big-room, trap, some Baltimore club music, and even some original hip-hop. Dropping tracks like “Niggas In Paris” by Jay-Z & Kanye West, and tracks like the famous remix that is spun by almost every big named DJ in the world at the moment, the “Pop That” remix of French Montana, the “Big Booty Bitches” remix, as well as his newest remix “Pusha T – Numbers On The Board (Crookers VIP version)” Giving New York that hip-hop vibe as well as that house feel, Crookers kept the party going dropping many originals from his new record label Ciao Records. Ciao Records has been signing some of the most impeccable producers, and Crookers had to show support by dropping tracks like Dillagas – Loud ft. Crookers & Raymond Lam – Blow, both artists one his new label. While dropping heavy house hits, Crookers slowed down the BPM by dropping some R&B style songs like Cashmere Cat’s remix of “No Lie” by 2 Chainz. A song that has been also receiving support by DJ’s around the world, Crookers showed support for a new producer hitting the scene, Trippy Turtle. He switched the vibe back up and dropped Trippy Turtle’s remix of “Senorita” by Justin Timberlake. Producers all around the globe have been trying to get their hands on this baltimore club track, and of course Crookers had to show that this track is super exclusive.
All around Crookers kept his set switching constantly, keeping it fresh and unpredictable, the crowds cheered at almost every drop with surprise to the mixing skills and track selections of Phra. Also dropping new songs like “Giga A Go Go” & “Stiaah” featuring Digi. While dropping new songs from his collection, Phra also dropped some older Crooker’s tracks like “Trillex” and “The Laughing Track” & one of their most famous remixes of “2 Step” from Chromeo. Over-all, Crookers set was an absolute non-stop party, the people were sweating and constantly dancing while enjoying every single second of such a great DJ set from one of the world’s famous producer/DJs. As usual Girls & Boys showed that they know how to book some of the best DJs and host some of the best parties in the world every Friday. Hats off to Crookers for an awesome set, and New York City awaits for another Crookers set, tell your friends to come because this is definitely a DJ not to ever miss if you’re ever looking to have a straight-up party.
