The Aokify America tour has been one of the most musically diverse tours to hit the states this fall. Honestly though… what else can you expect from a man who loves to throw giant cakes at his fans and rides blow-up rafts over their heads?
Saturday November 2nd 2013 the Aokify America tour had their second NYC tour date at Pier 94. All throughout the tour they had different artists join them like Keys N Krates, Felix Cartel, Autoerotique, Deorro, Dirtyphonics and Rune Rk, so the show was never the same! After Rune Rk hyped up the crowd, Waka Flocka was up next and ready to turn up with his crew.
There were at least 10 bottles of champagne lined up on the stage just ready to be popped and poured all over the crowd. It didn’t even take too long for that to happen. Waka Flocka has such an energetic stage presence while he is performing. Girls were being brought up from the crowd and even a couple guys who crowd surfed to the front joined Waka and with everyone brought up they got champagne poured in their mouths or giving their own bottle. He performed his hits like “No Hands” and “Bustin At Em”. Borgore even jumped on drums for a little bit during Waka’s set, which was awesome to see. The crowd favorite that brought us all back to early 2011 was “Grove St..Party”. Everyone lined up on stage with a champagne bottle and poured it all over the crowd as Waka and the crowd were chanting to the song “It’s a Party, It’s A Party, It’s A Party”. After a quick intermission to change up the stage, Borgore along with his two strippers and ice cream Co2 canons were ready to drop the bass. Borgore’s set was also diverse, reflecting the tour. There was a lot of ‘festival trap’ played like his newer tune released this summer with Carnage, “Legend”. He also had Waka Flocka and Paige join him to perform their track “Wild Out” together. For the fans who wanted the dubstep, Borgore of course had to drop his classics “Nympho” and “Ice Cream”.
Pharrell Williams hit the stage next with nothing but his DJ, a mic, his amazing voice and fashion sense. His performance captured everything great about Pharrell. He played every song you could possibly want to hear and even an encore at the end. We heard the very best of Pharrell as he serenaded the crowd with “Beautiful”, “Get Lucky”, “Blurred Lines” and then “Drop It Like It’s Hot”.
Steve Aoki has been in the electronic dance music scene for over twenty years and is one of the kings of entertainment. Aoki is known for his wild performances but also his stage production. For this tour Aoki picked up the one and only Kryoma, who is responsible for all of Aoki’s props for this tour including the LED 3-D Hex robots you see on stage, Aoki’s LED vest, and the CO2 canons covered in LED’s Aoki and his friends can shoot in the crowd. Steve Aoki stunned the crowd between all the stage props decked out in LED lights, confetti cannons, cakes, and bass. He of coursed followed his tradition of rafting over the entire crowd and picked someone to get caked. The entire night was filled with surprises and serious partying, there were even a couple of TV/Film celebrities in attendance! Taryn Manning who plays the religious freak Tiffany Doggett on the Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black” and Lindsay Lohan were both there enjoying the show! The Aokify tour is definitely worth catching especially if you want to get a special mix of the hip hop world and electronic music.
