At the ripe young age of 21, Stéphane Deschênes, better known as Damn Kids is making strides in the trap genre. Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, he produces many genres in EDM but, is primarily known for his bass music. He’s also released through various labels including Provoke, Trouble & Bass and Great Stuff Recordings – to much praise and positivity. Remixes of Green Velvet, Mark Knight and Pleasurekraft also helped him gain notoriety. As a result, Damn Kids has been featured on BBC 1 shows including, the widely-listened to Diplo & Friends. He’s accomplished many feats in just a short time, only coming onto to the scene in early 2012.
Though he never found himself classically trained in instruments, what did come naturally for him was sound engineering. His skill clearly shows in his newest release “Cry,” which features an interesting combination of musical influences and effects. The hardstyle kicks that serves as accents, combined with dark tones make for an unconventional listen. What listeners will come to appreciate is his use of samples and other sounds that showcase his expertise with engineering. Be sure to check out the track which is available as a free download here:
