Flux Pavilion, in honor of reaching two million Soundcloud fans, is proffering his latest original tune, “Exostomp (Jump Up High).” This release is also in anticipation of the new Circus Records compilation, Grand Central, dropping March 24th.
Exostomp’ is certainly a departure for Flux Pavilion, arguably one of the originators of dubstep, along with Doctor P. The heavy bass drops that have become anticipatory in a lot of Flux Pavilion’s work are noticeably absent. Instead the builds descend into scratchy, whiskey-marinated vocals, heavy synths, and comparatively fast-paced basslines. In many of Flux Pavilion’s interviews post ‘I Can’t Stop’-success, he intimated when asked about his future in dubstep, that it was great to be known for one thing performed very well, but continuous repetition of that thing is the work of an entertainer. An artist, instead, endeavors in new directions, searching for that next notable thing. In this author’s opinion, this venture is especially successful, offering a different take on the bass-driven music Circus Records is known for. I anticipate this track will be widely sampled in 2014, this certainly won’t be the last you’ll hear of it.
While Grand Central as a whole keeps true to the sound Circus Records was founded on, with tracks from Flux, Doctor P, and Cookie Monsta, it also explores new aural territory and new Circus Records talent, with introductory appearances from Lets Be Friends, Fox Stevenson, Dead Exit, Robots Can’t Dance and Nezzo. There is a lot to look forward to with this record’s release on March 24th, as well as the Grand Central Tour which begins March 14 and builds to an album launch party at a most appropriate venue, Miami’s Grand Central, on March 25th.
