Hailing all the way from Montreal, dubstep duo Adventure Club is widely known for their unique club-thumping sounds. Leighton James and Christian Srigley initially came together as a punk band but, eventually gravitated toward electronic music, specifically the bass wobbling sounds of dubstep. Their claim to fame was their remix of “Everything to Me” by Lips which garnered significant attention, including over 2 million views of the official video on UKF’s YouTube Channel. Since then, they have gone on to produce numerous tracks and remixes with no end in sight! 2013 brought the release of their first EP titled Calling All Heroes Part 1 which has gained significant praise and popularity. To celebrate Halloween weekend the two made a headlining appearance at Pier of Fear, RPM’s annual event for the most spirited holiday of the year.
Though they had to share the stage with the likes of everyone from the BOO! Halloween Massive lineup, it did not deter them from putting on a stellar performance. Knife Party, DJ Snake, Tchami, Milo & Otis, Tommy Trash and Borgeous were all on the bill to make for an epic Halloween night party! Pier 94 was even more packed than expected and everyone was dressed in their best costumes to honor the spooky holiday. There were tons of fun decorations including an enormous spider and other random shapes descending from the high rafters of the pier. RPM and Insomniac even teamed up with Blood Manor to feature a state-of-the-art haunted house that was not for the faint of heart. The vibes were intense and everyone was ready for some dirty dub once DJ Snake finished his trap and bass-heavy set.
After making an appearance at the legendary Halloween Parade downtown, one would think they would have been a bit tired, but this did not hold true for Adventure Club- they began their set really strong and set the tone for the duration of their set. Their intro was an excellent remix of “This is Halloween” from the famed film The Nightmare before Christmas which slipped into more hardcore and grimey dubstep tracks. They even threw in a hardstyle track or two to up the ante and keep everyone energized even though it was 1am!
Their set featured a good mix of trap, dnb, dubstep, hardstyle and all things that emphasize bass. They even included some interesting mashups throughout. Of course an Adventure Club performance would be incomplete without “Stay Gold” and “Crash,” two of their most beautiful and soothing melodic dub tracks. Everyone could be heard singing along and seen swaying with beat. A nice surprise was a remix of MGMT’s “Electric Feel” for any indie music fans that may have been in the audience. They were clearly the most energetic thus far; repeatedly hopping on top of their decks and headbanging along with everyone. Though it was a bit sad to see them go, there was no doubt that they commanded the energy in the entire room and got everyone pumped!
Adventure Club proved themselves by showing Pier of Fear exactly what they are made of- superhuman knowledge of bass music! They continuously mixed it up while staying true to their classic smooth dubstep roots that feature stunning vocals. It was an awesome set to remember and they definitely left their fans “craving” more.
